AISHWARAYA RAI
AISHWARAYA RAI has been one of the most charming beauties in Bollywood. She is an actress in Bollywood and a former miss world. Before taking acting as a profession she worked as a model as well.
She started her career with Mani Ratnam’s Tamil Movie Iruvar(1997). Iruvar was not a commercial success, but she got a critical acclaim for playing the controversial role of Jayalalitha. Her first commercial success was Jeans (1998). She debuted Bollywood with ‘Aur pyar ho gaya’ opposite Bobby Deol. But she came to the attention of Bollywood with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Hum dil de chuke Sanam’ in 1999. For this movie she bagged the film fare award for best actress. Since then she had been involved various successful movies like ‘Devdas’(2002), ‘Guru’(2007), ‘Jodha Akbar’(2008) and the blockbuster Dhoom2(2006).
Aishwarya’s acting skills were not restricted to just Bollywood but she went on to do a few holly wood movies as well like ‘Bride and Prejudice’(2003), ‘Mistress of spices’(2005) and the latest ‘Pink Panther2’(2009).
Early Life
AISH was born on 1 November 1973 in Mangalore to krishnaraj rai and Vrinda rai. She has an elder brother Aditya rai who works in Navy. Aditya rai also produced her movie ‘Dil ka rishta’ (2003). At an early age her parents moved to Mumbai where she attended the Arya Vidya Mandir high school in Santa Cruz. Rai then entered Jai Hind College at Churchgate for one year, and then moved to Ruparel College in Matunga to finish her "HSC" studies. After completing her studies she planned to pursue architecture. She could not finish architecture studies as she gave up her studies to pursue modeling. She has a good knowledge various languages like her mother tongue Tulu and Hindi, English, Mararthi and Tamil.

RAI has been doing bit of modeling as well along with architecture studies. She won the second place behind Sushmita sen in Miss India contest in 1994. She also won the Miss India world contest. The same year she surprised the world by winning the prestigious Miss World contest. After winning the contest she dropped out of architecture studies and she went to London for an year. Then started working as a model and later on took acting as a profession.
Film Career
RAI debuted her film career with Mani Ratnam’s Iruvar in 1997. The film was a critical success with an award of best movie at the Belgrade International Film Festival and two National Film Awards, and two Film fare Awards South. She made her Bollywood Debut with Aur pyaar ho Gaya Against Bobby Deol. But the movie was both commercially and critically unsuccessful. During the year 1998 she appeared in S shanker’s Jeans for which she bagged the Film fare best actress award. The film was noted for a song “Poovukkul” I which Aish was compared to the seven wonders f the world.
Her actual success story stated with ‘Hum Dil de chuke Sanam’ in 1999. For this movie she received another film fare nomination. She won her first Film Fare best actress award for the movie Taal. The movie successful internationally specially united states where the movie reached a variety’s top 20 box office listing.
In 2000, she appeared in ‘Josh’ with Shahrukh Khan. In this movie she played a catholic girls character who falls in love with the sibling of her brothers enemy. Later on she appeared in satish kaushik’s Hamara dil apke paas hai. She won the best actress award for this movie. After this there was a low patch in her career. Dhoom2 in 2006 came as a big blockbuster and it gave a new life to aish’s career.
Since then she had been doing various successful projects like Guru, Jodha Akbar etc.

She was chosen by the ‘Time’ magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the world and she appeared on the cover of time magazine as well. In October 2004 a wax figure of Rai was put on display in London's Madame Tussaud's wax museum She was the 6th Indian and the second Bollywood personality after her father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan to get this honor.

AISH married ABHISHEK BACCHAN on April 20, 2007. The marriage rites were performed at Bacchan family house pratiksha in Juhu, Mumbai.
